عصر مفرغ از مهم‌ترین دوره‌های فرهنگی ایران محسوب می‌شود؛ چرا که از این دوره بحث پیچیدگی‌های اجتماعی و خان سالارهای قبیله‌ای آغاز می‌گردد. پس از فرهنگ کوراارس و با پایان عصر مفرغ قدیم، تغییرات فرهنگی در سنت‌های عصر مفرغ میانی رخ می‌دهد که بیانگر استقرار اقوامی آشنا با فرهنگ سفال نخودی و نارنجی منقوش است که در حوضۀ رودخانۀ زاب ساکن شده‌اند. این منطقه از مهم‌ترین مناطق حوضۀ جنوبی دریاچۀ ارومیه است که پژوهش‌های باستان‌شناسی در آن انجام یافت. شمال غرب ایران اهمیت بسیاری در ادبیات باستان‌شناسی منطقه دارد؛ چراکه از منظر سوق الجیشی در ارتباط با مناطق جنوب قفقاز، شرق آناتولی و شمال بین‌النهرین و دارای پیوندهای فرهنگی با مناطق فوق است. پژوهش‌های باستان‌شناسی در محوطۀ برده‌زرد شهرستان پیرانشهر انجام یافت. این نوشتار تلاش دارد با مطالعۀ مواد فرهنگی حاصل از کاوش، به این پرسش پاسخ دهد که مناسبات و روابط فرهنگی برده زرد با مناطق هم‌جوار چگونه بوده است؟ کاوش‌های باستان‌شناسی برده‌زرد منجر به شناسایی محوطه‌ای از عصر مفرغ میانی همراه با ساختارهای معماری و یک تدفین در گوشه اتاق شد. نتایج پژوهش بیانگر تعاملات فرامنطقه‌ای و ارائۀ الگوی سنت تدفینی در فضای مسکونی و شناخت سنت‌های فرهنگی مفرغ میانی براساس مطالعۀ سفال در حوضۀ رودخانه زاب کوچک گردید. پژوهش حاضر بر مبنای کاوش باستان‌شناسی و سپس بررسی برهمکنش‌های فرهنگی منطقه صورت گرفته است.
